The Obligation to Work
Our friends, we command you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to keep away from all believers who are living a lazy life and who do not follow the instructions that we gave them. You yourselves know very well that you should do just what we did. We were not lazy when we were with you. We did not accept anyone’s support without paying for it. Instead, we worked and toiled; we kept working day and night so as not to be an expense to any of you. We did this, not because we do not have the right to demand our support; we did it to be an example for you to follow. While we were with you, we used to tell you, “Whoever refuses to work is not allowed to eat.” We say this because we hear that there are some people among you who live lazy lives and who do nothing except meddle in other people’s business. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we command these people and warn them to lead orderly lives and work to earn their own living.
2 Thessalonians 3:6-12.
Sadly today, church leaders live only from the support they are receiving through their members. They treat preaching as work like businessmen in suits. Not only this, but they demand or use the word of God to mislead others into thinking that giving is a duty and if you do not give, you are sinning in the eyes of God, or even robbing God of what is due to Him. Apostle Paul warned Christians of living a lazy life, and even they are apostles of Christ, they still worked day and night to earn a living as an example for everyone to follow.
Writing on my blog was one of my hobbies, but now I use it to share the word of God, hoping for others to read and learn directly from the scriptures. As you could see, my recent postings are just copied from the Bible without my own interpretations because as I learned, the Bible is complete in thought and words; it is thoroughly explained in detail already by the apostles and even Jesus Christ himself. Although from time to time, I give my own views sharing my personal life not as a basis of faith, but to encourage my fellow believers, also hoping that non-believers will also benefit from this.
This is not my bread and butter, but I must also say that I am unemployed. My just created website is my gift for others, and also to practice my skill for I am also a web developer in my own right. I had a recording studio which did not do well to tell you honestly and maybe it is also God’s will. I also tried writing as an occupation, but unfortunately, it also did not do well. I believe that God has other plans for me, keeping me occupied with other plans. I guess the reality of life is something to swallow, and the trials and struggles that we are now facing is just a passing storm; there is something better that we must strive to reach, the prize of eternal life.
May the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
