The War Within

There is a battle raging inside us everyday and in every moment in our life. As we wake up in the morning, there are these decisions to be made, and actions to accomplish. And, every decisions made should be right not only by our own standard but also by others. There is this fragile co-existence that keeps us in harmony. In this world, to do their will and ours is our survival. It is a matter of the grey area; there is no black or white. But through experience and scriptural sense, this grey area is also darkness, and this darkness we must abhor for this is evil. As the scriptures say, “Abhor for which is evil and cleave to what is good.”

In Romans 7:14-25, Paul is speaking about this conflict in us. He was saying that we do what our mind disapproves of. As he was saying, “But I see a different law at work in my body- a law that fights against the law which my mind approves of.” Because we are still living with our bodies, we are still slaves to sin. He continued, “…It makes me a prisoner to the law of sin which is at work in my body… Who will rescue me from this body that is taking me to death? Thanks be to God, who does this through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

“…Those who live as their human nature tells them to, have their minds controlled by what human nature wants. Those who live as the Spirit tells them to, have their minds controlled by the Spirit wants.” Those who are controlled by human nature are in fact, cannot obey God as apostle Paul tells us.

“…So then, my friends, we have an obligation, but it is not to live what our human nature wants us to. For if you live according to your human nature, you are going to die; but if by the Spirit you put to death your sinful actions, you will live. Those who are led by God’s Spirit are God’s children.”
